See you all in Chincoteague!

On behalf of idoodledu, inc and the Cubes in SpaceTM program, we invite you to RocketFest 2019, a three day event surrounding the Sounding Rocket-6 (SR-6) mission that launches on June 20th from NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia. The events celebrate the students’ accomplishment of launching their experiments into space!

Please complete the registration form for every person who is attending any of the events, whether they are a student presenting at the visitors center or a guest. You can find the form at the bottom of this page but please read all the information below before proceeding.

RocketFest gets larger each year, and that is FANTASTIC! However, to cover our increasing costs, this year we must charge a very small registration fee for each participant and guest.

  • Tuesday, June 18th
  • 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Chincoteague Center
  • 6155 Community Drive, Chincoteague Island

On Tuesday, June 18th at the Chincoteague Center, students will display and discuss their experiment with the public, NASA employees, and aerospace industry representatives. But of greatest importance, at this Student Exhibit Expo, students get to share their experiences and knowledge with their peers with whom they have so much in common! A special program will start at 1:30 pm and feature guest speakers and student presentations.

Please note this year the student presentations will NOT be at the Wallops Visitors Center but will be at Chincoteague Center.

  • Wednesday, June 19th
  • 5:30 PM – sunset
  • Veteran’s Memorial Park, Chincoteague Island
  • Cost: $15/person

We are hosting a good old-fashioned picnic with southern smoked, pit cooked pork barbeque and chicken, loads of sides, drinks and dessert. Catered by Shore Beef and BBQ, we let them do the work so we can have fun with you! Hosted at the picnic pavilion with gorgeous waterfront views, we will entertain everyone with activities for the little kids, games for kids of all ages while we listen to summertime tunes! What gets better than that?

  • Thursday, June 20th
  • 5:30 AM – 8 :00 AM (launch window)
  • NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center – launch viewing area

Watch the Terrier Improved-Orion sounding rocket launch from the viewing stands at the Visitor Center. Get there early to get a good seat or bring your own. NASA Wallops Flight Facility Range Control launch communications are broadcast so we can hear all mission prep and launch announcements. If the launch is “scrubbed” because of storm conditions or pesky boats that will not get out of the launch range in the ocean, the only other attempt will be on Friday, June 21st at the same time.

**Wear long sleeves and pants and bring mosquito repellent because we are on the marsh.**

Later in the afternoon, students can pick up their experiments from Team qb in the lobby of the Fairfield Inn on Chincoteague Island. Time TBD.

Chincoteague Island and the NASA's Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center are located on Route 175, six miles east of US-13 and five miles west of Chincoteague Island. It is a 60-minute drive south from Salisbury and Ocean City, Maryland and a 90-minute drive north from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Since the Visitor Center has no physical address (we know, really weird), you might find it easier to locate it by using the GPS coordinates and/or driving directions listed below. If you still need help finding the Visitor Center, please call: +1-757-824-1344 or +1-757-824-2298.
